How to Evaluate Mold Remediation in Nebraska
Now that the mold has been cleaned up, how do you know the work is complete? This page gives Nebraska homeowners a quick and easy checklist to evaluate the quality of the mold remediation and ensure the safety of their indoor air.
DOES IT LOOK CLEAN?
After even a basic mold remediation project, the treated area(s) should look clean. You should not see loose debris from removed building materials or even dust. Another thing you should never see when evaluating the quality of a remediation project is…mold! Sounds obvious but if there is visible mold on exposed framing, drywall, finish carpentry or personal effects, the remediation has been a failure. It should be noted that it is possible to see residual mold staining. You should be able to tell the difference between mold stains and actual mold.
DOES IT SMELL CLEAN?
A properly remediated structure should smell clean, or at least is should not smell musty or organic in nature. Although not all stale odors are a by-product of mold, it’s certainly cause for further investigation to identify the source.
WOULD IT PASS POST CLEANING VERIFICATION?
Mold remediation performed by unqualified contractors or individuals likely would NOT pass a post cleaning verification testing. In fact, a simple air sample will usually verify elevated levels of mold airborne mold spores. If you’re considering selling your home you, think twice before removing the mold yourself or hiring unqualified contractors. If you’re on the other side of the fence and considering the purchase of a home, a simple mold inspection and testing can identify significant mold problems that would not be discovered by a basic home inspection.
